I came to this book through Annie Dillard, who told an interviewer that when she wrote Holy the Firm, her endeavor was to write this poetry book into prose.
It’s weird, wild, & fantastic.
“I am like a deaf mute with a message
of the utmost importance
addressing someone ignorant of my fantastic language,
who must resort to a frightful pantomime
of sights and gestures.
Laboriously, I am transcribing reality.”
